Ohhhh Hawaii. My favorite place on earth, thus far. Oahu however is my least favorite of the islands. We are headed to Maui in January so we will see if that holds up to be true. If you plan on traveling to Hawaii, make sure to do the Pono Pledge before you go.
Just like all the other Hawaiian islands, we explored every inch. The north side is by far our favorite side of this island. Waikiki beach = totally overrated. Sure it’s worth going there to experience yourself, but I wouldn’t recommend a full day there. Too many people, it’s not the Hawaii I know and love and it feels like people aren’t respecting the island like they should. So my recommendation, if you go to the Island of Oahu, go north. And please follow the Hawaiian way.
What is the Hawaiian way? It is the “Aloha” way. Aloha is a philosophy of peace, love, empathy, and mutual respect that encompasses the culture of Hawaii for the people and mother nature. I’d encourage you to learn and adopt the true meaning of aloha if you travel to Hawaii. You have to give respect to get respect.
Oh yeah – we swam with sharks this trip! Out of this world experience.
Ohhhh AND we had travelers diarrhea from contaminated water from our first day exploring Pearl Harbor. We may have drank Pepto Bismol the entire trip, but we didn’t let it bring us down. It was rough!
